The election to the University Board is your opportunity to influence who will sit in the university's highest governing body.
The University Board is responsible, among other things, for ensuring the quality of academic activities and that the institution is managed efficiently and in accordance with laws and regulations.
Who will be elected in 2025?
- Two representatives for permanent employees with teaching and research positions – elected for four years
- One representative for fixed-term employees with teaching and research positions – elected for one year
- One representative for technical and administrative staff – elected for four years
- Two representatives for the students – elected for one year
Two alternates are elected for each category. In addition, four external representatives are appointed by the Ministry of Education and Research.

Board election: Who would you like to have on the University Board?
Come to the election meeting and get to know the candidates who wants to be involved in guiding the future development of the University of Oslo. The event will be streamed live.
Term of office
The term of office for permanent academic and technical-administrative employees is four years, and they are elected for the period from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2029. For the group of fixed-term academic employees, the term of office is one year: August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026.
Nominate candidates for the election
- Anyone with voting rights can nominate candidates in their own voting group.
- Those who are nominated must have been asked and agreed to stand for election.
- A proposer must nominate as many candidates as are to be elected within their voting group.
- A candidate may themselves be one of the proposers. This is outlined in the election regulations § 10 (in Norwegian).
The deadline for candidate proposals is passed.
Board Election - University of Oslo
Voting Rights
Permanent academic staff, academic staff in temporary positions, and technical-administrative staff in positions of 50 percent or more, as well as adjunct professors, can vote in their own voting group in the board election. The election is conducted electronically.
The students choose their own candidates.
