I am passionate about a strong, open, and academically pioneering university – one with the courage to prioritise, the willingness to collaborate, and an awareness of the social responsibility we uphold in the face of a troubled world.
I believe UiO should:
- Have a proactive approach to interdisciplinary collaboration and social engagement when addressing global challenges
- Mobilise its academic breadth to defend values under attack
- Ensure a safe and fair learning and working environment for all
Election plattform
As a representative for permanent academic staff, I wish to listen, include, and elevate the strong engagement I know exists among my colleagues.
An interdisciplinary and socially engaged UiO in response to contemporary crises
The university must improve both internal and external collaboration to address the many crises we face (climate and environmental crisis, war and genocide, polarization, and threats to democracy). We need to eliminate administrative barriers to collaboration on teaching between departments and faculties. UiO must actively contribute knowledge and engagement where decisions are made – locally, nationally, and globally. In response to a troubled world, the university must be visible, participatory, and compassionate.
Academic freedom and responsibility in challenging times
The university's freedom is not something we can take for granted; it is something we must fight for. The suppression of essential academic values by American authorities and universities' lack of resilience demonstrates the necessity of political engagement in higher education, even here at home. We need a strong and independent university that can mobilise its academic quality and breadth to defend values and realities that are under attack.
Academic excellence with new economic frameworks
In the future, UiO will face tighter economic frameworks. Coming from a department experiencing financial difficulties, I bring important experience to the University Board. I will work to ensure that the university encourages its units to make academic priorities based on holistic strategic assessments as they adapt to the new economic conditions.
An inclusive and equitable community
I want to contribute to further developing an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment. We must take active steps to prevent and address racism, discrimination, and harassment.
About me
I am a physician and professor of medical history at the Institute of Health and Society, Faculty of Medicine. Throughout my career, I have worked interdisciplinarily – from my doctoral training in the humanities to research and teaching collaborations across faculty boundaries at UiO and internationally. Currently, I am leading the Norwegian contribution to a Wellcome Trust-funded interdisciplinary project that combines history, anthropology, medicine, and public health to critically explore the climate impact of healthcare services.
I am passionate about teaching and have extensive leadership experience in education, including roles as the head of education and currently as the educational leader at the Institute of Health and Society. I have served as chair and board member of the The Science Studies Colloquium Series, a board member at the Centre for Gender Research, and an alternate representative to the boards of the Faculty of Medicine and TIK Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture. Internationally, I have been president of the European Association for the History of Medicine and Health (2021–2023) and currently lead the organisation's board.
