Cooperation between parties, co-determination, and involvement at the Natural History Museum

The museum actively works to ensure that employees can participate in decision-making processes. Primarily, this is achieved through formal and structured collaboration between management, trade unions, and safety representatives.

Additionally, we are committed to creating processes that include and build on employees' insights and perspectives as much as possible and where appropriate. We emphasize designing projects and processes in a way that actively engages employees at relevant stages and provides opportunities to influence strategic decisions. We believe that employee involvement contributes to better decisions and objectives.

About cooperation between parties and co-determination

Cooperation between parties and co-determination are fundamental principles for organizing our work. The collaboration between employees, management, safety representatives, and trade unions is mainly regulated by the Civil Servants Act, the Working Environment Act, the Main Collective Agreement for the civil service, and the Main Agreement/Adaptation Agreement at UiO.

At the Natural History Museum, there is well-established cooperation between management, trade unions, and safety representatives. The museum's management and trade union representatives meet regularly in IDF-meetings (Information, Discussion, and Negotiation) to handle matters. Minutes from these meetings accompany board papers and are available on the website for board meetings.

Salary negotiations are conducted in accordance with the Main Collective Agreement between union representatives and the employer.

The museum director and the museum's local chief safety representative meet regularly. The local working environment committee (LAMU) typically has four meetings a year. LAMU has the same tasks and decision-making authority as AMU (Central Working Environment Committee) and must adhere to the regulations for working environment committees.

Get to know the safety representatives and trade unions

To make the most of your employment at the museum, it is important that you know who your local safety representative is and consider whether you want to join a trade union.
