Welcome back to a new semester

The Christmas holiday is over, and I hope everyone managed to take a few days off and relax!

Teaching has begun, and more and more students are arriving on campus.

Moving into the Life Science Building

This spring will be marked by the first move into the Life Science Building, which will be very exciting. The academic groups that are moving are working hard on clearing and disposal, as well as preparing to relocate infrastructure and laboratory equipment, student activities, and workspaces.

The Life Science Building is UiO’s largest project, and the university leadership and the dean’s office are following the processes closely. You can read about the relocation process on UiO’s website.

Good luck with the final efforts to all of you who are now getting ready to move!

Emerging technologies

Another important development this spring is UiO’s allocation of the Ministry of Education’s basic funding awarded to emerging technologies at UiO and NTNU. These funds will be used to build and strengthen selected, outstanding research environments in collaboration with industry, and to develop future capacity in critical technologies.

The development of our educational offerings in enabling technologies will therefore also be important.

The rector has initiated a process led by Pro-Rector Bj?rn Jamtveit together with Vice-Rector Jens Petter Berg. Their working group has started its work, and I am participating on behalf of the faculty. The dean’s office is working closely with the department heads, who have been tasked with coordinating input from their academic environments.

I will return with more information once the process has progressed further.

The Week

This week, The Week is being held – the career week for early-career researchers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Natural History Museum, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, in collaboration with dScience and the Science Library.

PhD candidates, postdocs, and early-career researchers are invited to participate in a range of activities focused on building careers both within and outside academia.

We are proud to offer such a strong programme for our early-career researchers – many thanks to everyone who contributes!

With this, I wish all staff and students at our faculty a wonderful spring semester!

Best regards,

Solveig
