Chateau Neuf
Temporary facade safety net
What's happening?
The Estate Department has prevously secured two of the outer walls on Chateau Neuf?to prevent any potential loose parts from falling. We installed a safety net by the main entrance and to the right of the main entrance. Now, we have started securing the rest of the bulding the same way: The west fa?ade, towards Friggfeltet, the south fa?ade, towards Slemdalsveien, and the stair towers.
When is it happening?

Geologibygningen
Maintenance of maple tree
What's happening?
The large maple tree located right next to the sidewalk on Blindernveien by Geologibygningen is scheduled for routine maintenance. The tree care company will put up necessary signage and barricades.
When is it happening?
Start date: Wednesday, 18th March 2026
End date: Wednesday, 18th March 2026
Consequences
- Reduced accessibility on the sidewalk.
- Some noise from the chainsaw.
- Barriers will be set up around the work area.

Georg Sverdrups hus
Renovation in basement
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be?converting basement areas in Georg Sverdrups hus into a new secure preservation store for the University of Oslo Library’s collection of irreplaceable books. The new facility will be located in room K243, facing Sophus Lies auditorium and Moltke Moes vei.
To prepare the premises for the new function, we will replace the ventilation ducts in the room and install a dedicated inert gas fire suppression system. In addition to one wall being demolished and a new one erected, there will be some masonry, plastering and painting.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 3rd November 2025
End date: Onsday, 15th April 2026
Consequences
- Low noise levels
- Noisier works will be carried out between 07:00–09:00 and after 15:00
- During exams, events and similar, noisy works can be paused upon request to the project manager
- Low dust levels
- Minimal odour

Historical Museum
Closed sanitary facilities
What's happening?
In connection with the repairs of the worn drainpipes in the Historical Museum, we need to close the following sanitary facilities on Monday, 16th March; Monday, 23rd March; and Monday, 13th April:
- Level 1: Rooms 110, 111, 112 and 113
- Level M: Rooms M12, M13 and M14
- Level 4: Rooms 401, 411, 412 and 420a
When is it happening?
- Monday, 16th March 2026

- Monday, 13th April 2026
Consequences
- Toilets, showers and sinks in the mentioned rooms will be closed until 19:00. There are alternative facilities in the building.

Test area in vestibule
What's happening?
The Estate Department is planning to renovate the terrazzo flooring the new wardrobe in room 160 and the stucco marble in the vestibule. To do this, we must first create test areas in the vestibule as part of the application to The Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren). The work will be coordinated with Allerio’s work on the Stone Age exhibition.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 16th March 2026
End date: Monday, 30th March 2026
Consequences
- The wardrobe will be closed on Monday, 16th March; Monday, 23rd March; Tuesday, 24th March; and Monday, 30th March.
- Minimal noise.
- Minimal noise. The test area will be covered with plastic.
- Minimal odours.

Kristine Bonnevies hus
Renovation of premises for the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be renovating rooms U201–U217 and K202–K211 in Kristine Bonnevies hus (mazemap.com), located in a separate area behind the building. These rooms will be converted into new premises for the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History, which will move from Frederiks gate 3.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 18th August 2025
End date: Wednesday, 31st?December 2025
Consequences
- The area is separate but connected to Kristine Bonnevies hus’ main building through an elevator and a stairwell. Access will be restricted while work is ongoing, and the associated exit will only be available as an emergency exit.
- Some noise may carry up through the elevator shaft and stairwell.

Niels Henrik Abels hus
Replacement of lifts
What's happening?
The Estate Department will replace the old lifts in Niels Henrik Abels hus with new, larger lifts. We will replace one lift at a time so that the other remains operational. Please note that lift capacity will be greatly reduced throughout the work period. We recommend that students and employees who are able to do so use the stairs when going down.
When is it happening?
Start date: Wednesday, 7th January 2026
End date: December 2026
Consequences
- Limited lift capacity throughout the work period. If you are planning a larger event in Abels utsikt, we encourage you to inform participants about the reduced capacity or consider relocating the event.
- We plan to carry out noisy work outside core work hours.
- We will build an enclosure in front of the lift shaft to reduce dust.

Niels Henrik Abels hus, Vilhelm Bjerknes hus, Sophus Lies auditorium
Planned partial power outage
What's happening?
As part of replacing the lifts in Niels Henrik Abels hus, we need to disconnect the power supply that serves the major technical installations, such as ventilation, cooling and heating, in Niels Henrik Abels hus, Sophus Lies auditorium and Vilhelm Bjerknes hus, as well as the door openers in Niels Henrik Abels hus. The current lifts are connected to a different power system, while the new ones will be connected to the same system as the other major installations.
The buildings will remain open as usual, and the lift will be operational.
When is it happening?
Start date: Friday, 6th March 2026 at 12:00
End date: Friday, 6th March 2026, during the afternoon
Consequences
- Ventilation, cooling and heating in all three buildings will be turned off. It is difficult to determine how long it will take before it is noticeable.
- Noise from the backup power generator, which will be located either in the basement or outside the construction site.

Nye Rikshospitalet

What's happening?
Helse S?r-?st has commenced the work to expand Rikshospitalet at Gaustad. Some construction activities have already begun. The project will continue for several years. Parts of the work will affect the University of Oslo's students and staff in the area.
When is it happening?

Follow signage and advice from traffic wardens. Wear reflective gear during the dark season. Do not cross the road where barriers have been put up

Robert Colletts hus
Renovation of exhibition hall
What's happening?
The Estate Department will renovate exhibition hall 212 in Robert Colletts hus to accommodate the new exhibition that the Natural History Museum plans to display there. As part of the project, we will also carry out asbestos abatement. This will be done in accordance with current regulations.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 16th March 2026
End date: Sunday, 16th August 2026
Consequences
- Room 212 will be closed while work is ongoing. The escape route through the room will be maintained.
- Construction noise. Particularly noisy work will be planned in collaboration with NHM.
- The work will generate dust. Measures to prevent the spread of dust will be implemented.
- Necessary relocation of stored items in room 212 has been agreed upon with the museum.
- Increased traffic of both people and goods to and from the room throughout the construction period.

Sentrumsbygningene
Refurbishment of doors
What's happening?
The Estate Department will be refurbishing a total of 56 doors in Domus Academica, Domus Bibliotheca, Domus Media, Professorboligen and Gymnastikkbygningen. The doors have different maintenance needs, but the common factors are adjustments and painting. Some doors will be closed during the work, but it will not affect access to the buildings or escape routes.
When is it happening?
Start date: week 10, 2026
End date: week 52, 2027
Consesquences
- Occasionally closed doors, but this will not affect access to the buildings or escape routes.
- Minimal noise. Particularly noisy work will be scheduled outside of core hours.
- During dusty work, we will cover the area to prevent the spread of dust.
- Odours from painting.

ZEB-bygningen
Renovation of premises, third floor
What's happening?
?The Estate department will be making a new common area for the stad at the Department of Musicology, at third floor in ZEB-bygningen, before the current common area will be converted into offices.
When is it happening?
Start date: Monday, 23rd February 2026
End date: Sunday, 27th April 2026
Consequences
- Noise from demolition and tools.
- We will try to carry out particularly noisy work outside core working hours.
- Some dust, especially during demolition.

Rerouting of high voltage cables
NB! Updated 26th February, 2026
What's happening?
Forsvarsbygg is preparing to build an extension to ZEB-bygningen and will, as part of this, carry out excavation work to reroute high-voltage cables. They will perform the excavation in stages to prevent trenches from being open for long periods. The work will begin closest to the building and will finish at the parking lot. The area will always be accessible to vehicles and pedestrians, and it will always be possible to enter the building.
Update: The postponed end date is due to the need to excavate deeper than anticipated to avoid pipes and cables running underground at the same location. In connection with this, the project has encountered bedrock. There will continue to be restricted access and noisy works, including rock breaking with pneumatic drill.

Consequences
- Reduced accessibility between ZEB-bygningen and Fysikkbygningen. Construction fences and temporary plates on the ground will be placed out. It will always be possible for vehicles and pedestrians to move around.
- The parking lot between ZEB-bygningen and Fysikkbygningen will be closed for parts of the work period. There will be limited parking available in the alley between ZEB and Geologibygningen.
- Noise from the excavator.
- Possible noise from pneumatic drill.
- Some noise from generator for snow melting.
