Terms of Service for Viderekontakt

These user terms govern the use of the Viderekontakt service (hereinafter referred to as "the Service") offered by the University of Oslo (UiO). By using this service, you accept the terms described below.

Table of Contents

1. Service Description

The primary purpose of the Service is to provide a simple solution for conveying a new point of contact via email for former users of UiO's email services.

The Service allows users at UiO and former users who have terminated or are about to terminate their affiliation with the university to register a new email address to be used as a point of contact. When a user loses their affiliation with UiO and their mailbox is deactivated, emails cannot be delivered to the user’s mailbox. Senders of emails that would normally have been delivered to the old UiO email address will receive an auto-reply (also known as a "bounce") via the Service, informing that the user account is no longer available and indicating the registered new email address for further communication.

Use of the Service is voluntary.

2. Disclaimer

UiO disclaims responsibility for whether the auto-reply with the new email address registered in the Service is received by the sender of emails to the old UiO email address.

UiO has no control over or responsibility for the actions of third parties who receive the forwarded registered new email address.

3. Operation of the Service

The Service is provided on a "best effort" basis. This means that UiO will strive to ensure that the forwarding of the registered new email address works as intended, but UiO cannot guarantee consistent or error-free operation.

4. User's Responsibility

The user is responsible for registering a correct and functional new email address for forwarding and for keeping the registered new email address in the Service up to date.

The user should be aware that by registering a new email address in the Service, the user grants UiO permission to forward the email address to anyone who contacts the user's old UiO email addresses.

If the user obtains a new active affiliation with UiO, the Service will automatically be paused, and senders will no longer receive auto-replies with the new registered email address through the Service.

The user shall use the Service in an ethical and legal manner.

5. Deletion and Termination of the Service

The user’s registered new email address in the Service will automatically be deleted, and the auto- reply will be terminated after a maximum period of five (5) years from the date the service was activated. To continue using the service after this period, the user must extend the service by updating their registered email address within a reasonable time before the expiration date. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that their forwarding email address remains active.

The user may terminate the auto-reply and delete the registered email address in the Service at any time before the expiration date.

6. Changes to the Terms

UiO reserves the right to change these user terms at any time. Any changes will be announced in the Service or on the service page. Changes will take effect within a reasonable time after announcement.

The user is responsible to keep up with updates to the terms.

7. Contact Information
