Note that NVivo was originally developed for Windows and that the Mac version lacks some functionality. If you are working in TSD or Educloud you must use Omnissa, where only the Windows version is available.
You never need to log in to NVivo, because logging in is only for services that users at UiO do not have access to.
UiO has assessed these services as not secure.
Install NVivo (PC)
- UiO users with a UiO laptop: download and install NVivo from Software Center.
- UiO users with a personal PC: UiO users can download and install from Winprog. Enter the license key from Winprog on NVivo's activation page.
- Look for "provide enterprise key to activate" at the bottom of the activation page (NOT "NVivo log in").
Install NVivo (Mac)
- UiO users with a UiO Mac: download and install NVivo from Managed Software Center.
- UiO users with a personal Mac: UiO users can download and install from Macprog. Enter the license key from Macprog on NVivo's activation page.
- Look for "provide enterprise key to activate" at the bottom of the activation page (NOT "NVivo log in").
Install Omnissa (PC and Mac)
- UiO users can download and install Omnissa for UiO Program Kiosk, which provides access to a range of programs, including NVivo.
- Follow the setup instructions for Omnissa.
- Follow the instructions to give Omnissa access to your local files by adding locations in "Drive Sharing" under Settings. See how to set up access to your files and OneDrive in ProgramKiosk.
- You can open NVivo as a standalone app inside Omnissa, or you can use Fullscreen Office and work with the program on a Windows desktop.
- Older Mac? If you need a version of Omnissa for macOS Monterey (12), you can download it here.
- If you have an older version of macOS, we recommend updating your macOS in System Settings on your Mac.
Change settings for reconnect behavior (Mac)
If Omnissa automatically reconnects to previous sessions, this may cause error messages indicating that NVivo project files are already in use, or other issues with opening files in a new session. To avoid this, you can change the reconnect behavior settings.
- Open Omnissa Horizon Client and connect to the server view.uio.no.
In the taskbar, select Connections and go to Settings.
In the settings under Applications, make sure that Do not ask to reconnect and do not automatically reconnect is not checked
Can't download NVivo or Omnissa?
In that case you can use Omnissa for the UiO Program Kiosk in the browser.
