Submit your master's thesis in Inspera

All master's thesis are submitted in Inspera for grading and publication in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA).

Have this ready before you start the submission:

  • The title of your thesis. The title you enter will appear on transcripts, the diploma, and in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA).
  • Summary, if you wish to make it available in NVA.
  • The master's thesis in PDF-format. See how to convert to PDF. Attachments in PDF format are submitted in the same file as the master’s thesis. Attachments that cannot be converted to PDF can be submitted separately.
  • Make sure you know where on your computer you have saved the file(s) you are going to submit.
  • Start the submission well in advance of the deadline. It may take some time to enter the summary and upload the file(s).
  • Group thesis? Everyone who has collaborated on the thesis must submit their thesis individually in Inspera.

Note: You need only submit the master's thesis in Inspera. The thesis will be submitted both for grading and for publication in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA).

Log in to Inspera

Select Login with FEIDE and provide your UiO username and password.

Find the master's thesis course and click on Click here to get ready.

You must then check the box to confirm that you understand that there are mandatory questions that must be answered for the submission to be delivered. Check I understand and click Open the test.

Register information about the master's thesis

  • Write the title of the thesis in the field Title. The title will appear on the transcript, diploma, and in NVA. The field is mandatory.
  • In the field Engelsk tittel, you can enter the English title of the thesis if the title is in a language other than English. The English title will appear on the English transcript of records.

  • If you try to navigate to the next question without answering a mandatory question, you will receive this message:
  • Check off which language the thesis is written in. If the language is not on the list, select None of the above. The question is mandatory.
  • Enter your abstract if you want it to be available and searchable in NVA.
  • You can also write an alternative abstract in different language.
  • Enter your name. If you have one or more co-authors, all names must be provided. The field is mandatory.
  • Enter the name of the supervisor. If you have multiple supervisors, all names must be provided.The field is mandatory.
  • Choose whether you allow the thesis to be published in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA). If you publish, the thesis will be searchable and accessible on the internet. If you choose not to publish the thesis, only the author, thesis title, and any summary will be searchable and available, but the actual master's thesis will not be. The question is mandatory.
  • What does it mean to make the thesis accessible in NVA?
  • Non-passed master's theses are never published in NVA.
  • Choose whether you want to publish any separate attachments. The question is mandatory.
  • NOTE: Not all master’s theses let you submit separate attachments.
  • Choose whether you want to delay the publication of the thesis for up to 5 years. The question is mandatory.
  • Check the box if the thesis contains information subject to statutory confidentiality and therefore needs to be restricted. The question is mandatory.
  • Information about restricting access.
  • Upload the master's thesis and any attachments that can be included in the same PDF-file. The upload is mandatory.
  • You can only upload one file and only in PDF-format. The maximum file size is 2 gigabytes.
  • Click Select file to upload and select the file with the correct version of the master's thesis.
  • If you upload the wrong file, you can click?Replace to change it to the correct file.
  • If you have attachments that cannot be uploaded in the same PDF as the master's thesis, you can upload them here.
  • You can upload any file type, but only one file. If you need to upload multiple files, they must be combined into a single zip file. Here is a guide for creating a zip file. The maximum file size is 2 gigabytes.
  • You can navigate back and forth between the different pages in Inspera to review that everything is filled out correctly.
  • When the submission deadline expires, the master's thesis will be submitted automatically.
  • Once the master's thesis is submitted, you can view your answers and the uploaded files under Previous tests?in Inspera.
  • You will also find the title of your thesis in Studentweb under My active courses and in the Education plan.

Changes until the submission deadline:

  • You can open the exam in Inspera and modify all answers, as well as replace the files, until the deadline expires.

Spelling mistakes in the title

Spelling mistakes in the title must be reported to the unit responsible for the master's course. Contact your department or the information center at your faculty.

Spelling mistakes in the abstract

Spelling mistakes in the thesis

The master's thesis published in NVA must be identical to the graded version. This means that you cannot replace the file you submitted in Inspera with another file for publication in NVA. If you have spelling mistakes or other errors in the thesis, the University Library can add an errata list that specifies the misatakes and what it should have actually stated. A short errata list can be added in the abstract field, while a longer errata list can be added as an additional file. Send an email to the University Library:?duo-hjelp@ub.uio.no

Publication in NVA

Passed master's theses will be published in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA) 98 days after the submission deadline.

Processing of personal data

Remember to close the registration in the Sikt portal if your project is registered there for the processing of personal data. Usually, closing the registration means that personal data such as names, contact details, audio recordings, etc. are deleted. Sikt will send a reminder to the email address you used in the registration form. Click on the link to confirm the closure.
