Submission

Your individual thesis submission deadline can be found in Studentweb under your active course, GEO5960 - Geosciences. Master Thesis.?

Extension of submission deadline

You may apply for an extended submission deadline if you cannot submit on time due to non-lasting illness (your own or your child’s) or project-related problems beyond your control.

The deadline for applying for an extension is 1 month before your submission deadline (for most students: 15 April for a 15 May submission.

Illness must be documented with a medical certificate, and project issues must be documented by your main supervisor. The documentation must be submitted together with the application.

You can find more information and the application form for this here:?

Your thesis must be submitted in Inspera:

When submitting your thesis, start well before the deadline and make sure that the submitted PDF is the final version, free of comments, tracked changes, and annotations (e.g., from your supervisor or proofreaders).

Check Inspera's technical requirements well in advance of your submission deadline.

Completed theoretical syllabus

After submitting your application for approval of the master's contract, you received a formal answer on your application from the student administration indicating which courses have been approved as part of your theoretical syllabus. This is registered in your study plan on Studentweb.

If you have taken other courses than this, you need to apply for changes of the master’s contract as soon as possible!

Your theoretical syllabus consists of 60 ECTS, which must be completed before you can defend your thesis in the final oral examination. The HSE courses are part of your mandatory courses and must also be completed before the examination.

If you are missing one or more HSE courses, all but one of them can be taken as e-learning courses until about 25 May.

For questions regarding the HSE courses after this, please refer to the MN Student Information Centre (studieinfo@mn.uio.no).

About the final exam

Together with your supervisor, you agree on the time of the final exam, and your supervisor will contact the assessor committee to ensure that the time works for them.

Your supervisor(s) have already received an email with information about this process.

If your main supervisor is not working at the University of Oslo (UiO), please contact your co-supervisor at UiO for this. The exam is two-part and consists of a 30-minute public presentation, where you present your thesis and findings.

Afterward, it is time for an oral examination of your MSc thesis and presentation. When you are finished, you will receive your final grade from the evaluation committee.?It will not be possible to request a justification of the grade after this point, as it will be considered to have been given once the result is known.

The time for your master's examination will be published online once we have received the exam details from your supervisor, and first after you have submitted your thesis in Inspera.

Getting your degree and diploma

After your final exam, you need to submit a clearance form to the student administration where both you, your supervisor, the IT and the department administration confirm that you have cleared out your staff, emptied eventual lab samples and returned any keys.?

Once the clearance form has been returned in full to Karl Johan in the Study administration, and your final examination has been passed, your MSc degree will be registered and the diploma produced.?

Graduation ceremony / "kandidatfest"

There will be a graduation ceremony for the master students at the Department of Geosciences who complete their Master of Science on the 18 June.?

Registration form for the ceremony will be sent out shortly.
