Adrian Stipic, a former student at the Department of Health Management and Health Economics, describes how his work involves developing pricing strategies that balance profitability with market dynamics, monitoring performance, and identifying opportunities that drive sustainable growth.

– My master’s in Health Economics, Policy & Management is very relevant to what I do today. It gave me a solid understanding of healthcare systems, pricing, and regulations, which helps when setting strategies in a regulated market. I also use the analytical and economic tools I learned to interpret trends and make informed pricing decisions, Stipic says.

What is demanded in order to work in this field?

– Pricing and market access roles in pharma require analytical and financial skills, knowledge of healthcare systems and regulations, and the ability to develop compliant pricing strategies. Communication and stakeholder management are just as important, along with adaptability to changing policies and market conditions.

How did you get this job?

– I started at GlaxoSmithKline AS (GSK) as a student before my master’s. During the Health Economics, Policy, and Management program, I did an internship through one of the courses, which gave me hands-on experience and helped me build a network. These experiences, combined with my degree, prepared me well for stepping into my current role after graduation.

To who would you recommend this job/profession? What kind of people with what background?

– I would recommend this profession to individuals who are interested in the intersection of healthcare, economics, and business. It’s a good fit for those who enjoy working with data and regulations, and who want to contribute to patient access and sustainable healthcare systems. A background in health economics, pharmacy, business, or related fields is a great starting point.

What do you like best about this profession?

– What I like the most is its impact on healthcare – helping ensure patients can access innovative medicines. The field is closely connected to policy, economics, and pricing regulations, which makes the work highly impactful and relevant to shaping healthcare access.

What other opportunities are there within the profession?

– There are opportunities to move into roles like market access, finance, public affairs or broader commercial positions. Several former HEPMA students work in these areas, so the options are quite diverse.

What are the chances of getting a job in this profession?

– For graduates in Health Economics, Policy, and Management, the chances are good. The field values expertise in healthcare systems, economics, and policy, and these skills are in demand for roles in pricing, market access, and related areas.
