Standard IT Equipment
Employees at the Faculty of Social Sciences (SV) are typically provided with one portable IT device, funded by the department's/unit's IT budget. The portable device includes a port replicator/docking station with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- The standard IT device is Windows-based, as this system is well integrated with both UiO's and external services. This ensures a good workflow at the office, when working from home, and during travel.
- The IT device is standardized and configured to meet the typical requirements of teaching, research, and office tasks.
- Standard equipment will be readily available in stock and can be replaced relatively quickly in the event of any malfunctions.
- Mac devices may be offered in exceptional cases, but these must be justified on academic grounds. There is no stock for Mac devices, which may result in longer repair or replacement times in case of malfunctions.
Equipment beyond the standard solution
- A need for equipment beyond the standardised IT unit is treated as an exception and is only addressed after a reasoned application. This need is clarified with the department/unit after an overall assessment. Operating funds and/or external financing do not in themselves entitle you to purchase other equipment or additional units.
- Applications with technical justifications are reviewed in collaboration with the IT department."
- Facilitation needs are discussed with and documented by the immediate manager.
- To prevent the institute/unit from purchasing redundant equipment, it is advisable to first check if existing equipment is available to meet the need.
- Equipment must always be purchased by the IT department.
- As a general rule, all equipment must have UiO's current operating arrangements.
Life expectancy
Equipment is intended to have at least a service life consistent with the warranty and service period
Research Projects
The IT department should be involved in assessing needs and budgeting for projects. During the application process, it is essential to thoroughly identify the hardware and software required to execute the project. As part of the research project planning, an operational plan should be developed, and a replacement schedule for equipment should be created if the project duration necessitates it. The IT department will also evaluate and recommend utilizing existing UiO infrastructure if it proves to be more cost-effective and efficient.
Joint procurement of equipment
To drive prices down, UiO conducts a mini-tender for standard equipment twice a year, typically in May/June and November/December. The faculty's policy is to utilize UiO's joint procurement process, with limited equipment purchases outside these periods. Price is an important factor in the selection of machines, but the equipment mustconsistently offer good performance and quality. The IT department will maintain quick access to standard equipment, which will be kept in stocked.
Employees at PSI are requested to report their needs ahead of these procurement periods. For the other units of the faculty, equipment is purchased during the joint procurement process based on past requirements and experience.
Replacement Purchase
UiO is self-insured, meaning a standard home insurance policy typically does not cover equipment borrowed from UiO if it is stolen, damaged, or lost. In such instances, the equipment is deemed lost, and the guidelines for replacement purchases are the same as for new acquisitions.
Order IT-equipment
All IT equipment must be ordered through the online IT equipment order form
This order form for equiptment is designadeted for ISS, ISV, SAI, ?I, ARENA,TIK and UiO:Energy and Environment.
