MEK1010 – Renewable energy
Course content
The course reviews in simple and popular terms, the subject of energy and modern energy technology. The subject, in rapid transition, gives an overview from energy policies and -history to renewable energy including ocean-, solar, hydro- and wind power. The communications employ illustrative layouts and minimal use of formulas.?

By completing the course
- you have good understanding of the growth of renewable energy and energy consumption.?
- you can discuss how renewable energies are transformed from subsidies to benefit.
- you have a good overview of power from wind and hydro, how wind turbines and hydro power function, and how the power is scaled.?
- you have knowledge about solar cells, their efficiency, how they function, and where they are produced.?
- you have knowledge about wave power and modern applications like production of fresh water.
- you understand the consequences of extreme weather for the energy sector, and how the 100 years wave impacts on offshore wind.?
- you can discuss Norway's and EU's role in energy from wind, hydro and solar.?
Admission to the course

Teaching
4 hours of lectures/exercises per week throughout the semester.
Examination
Final written exam which counts 100 % towards the final grade.?
Multiple choice.

One sheet of paper (A4) with handwritten or printed text on both sides and an approved calculator.

Language of examination
The examination text is given in Norwegian. You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
