HMS0501 – Safety and Physical Environment
Course content
It is our goal that students and employees have a safe working environment, and to ensure that all teaching and research takes place within safe conditions. This course will focus on how we all can contribute to achieving this goal.
Learning outcome
After completing the course you should have knowledge of:
- What HSE is and what objectives the University of Oslo has for HSE
- How the University of Oslo wants to ensure its safety objectives and what responsibilities you have as a student
- How to carry out a simple risk assessment
- What you should do if you become aware of, or is subject to, an adverse event
- How to report HSE incidents
Admission to the course
The course is compulsory for:
- New students in the following bachelor's programmes:
- All bachelor's programmes at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science
- Dental Health
- New students in the following 5-year master's programmes:
- New students in following Master's programmes:
- New students at following the programme of professional study:
- Other students taking a course having HMS0501 as a prerequisite
Teaching
The course is offered as digital self-study in Canvas.
Please note that the course has a digital online exam, and you must be both registered for teaching and registered for the exam for the correct semester in order to receive a passing result in Student Web.
Examination
The self-study course includes an integrated digital exam that must be passed in order to pass the course. Please note that you must be both registrered for teaching and registered for the exam in HMS0501 for the correct semester to receive a passing result in StudentWeb.
The digital exam consists of multiple-choice questions and can be taken many times. When the exam is approved in Canvas, you will receive an email with a course certificate, but the course is not considered passed until the result is visible under “Results” in StudentWeb.
Students who have not passed HMS0501 – Safety and Physical Environment will not receive an approved degree from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences if HMS0501 is mandatory in the programme or a required prerequisite for courses in the degree.
