Finding an Internship and Getting Approval?
Students are responsible for securing their own internships, either by contacting relevant institutions directly, or by applying for internship positions announced on this page. If you are unsure whether the tasks offered by a potential host institution are relevant to the programme, you must contact the Study Administration for clarification before accepting the internship.
The internship:
- should be equivalent to six weeks of full-time work (37.5 hours per week),
- must not delay your study progression, and
- must not be paid or replace regular employees.
Internships that extend beyond six weeks may be approved, provided that it does not conflict with their teaching commitments at UiO.
We strongly encourage students to complete the internship in their second semester, within one of the spring teaching blocks:
- First teaching block: weeks 3–8
- Second teaching block: weeks 9–14/15 (excluding the Easter holiday)
- Third teaching block: weeks 16–21
When you have secured an internship, you must prepare a written outline that includes a description of your tasks and responsibilities, the planned duration of the internship and the expected work percentage (e.g. full-time or part-time and number of hours per week). An outline must be submitted by email to the Study Administration and approved by the Department of Political Science for the internship to qualify for PECOS4006 – Internship.

Contracts
Students must contact The Study Administration to obtain the official contract templates. Other templates will not be approved.
A contract must be established between PECOS, the host institution, and the student, specifying the rights and obligations of each party during the internship.
In addition, a separate contract between the host institution and the student must be established. This agreement should outline the nature of the work, the duration of the internship, and any other relevant details. A copy of this contract must be submitted to The Study Administration.
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all contracts are signed by the relevant parties before the internship begins.
Before and After the Internship
Once the contract is signed, students must register for PECOS4006 – Internship in Studentweb.
After the internship, students must submit their internship report in Inspera, as detailed on the course page.
