Svein Olav Kolset was educated as a Nutritionist at the School of Nutrition, the University of Oslo. He has since then been a staff scientist and later Professor at the Department of Nutrition. Svein Olav has for decades been a leading international expert on nutrition and glycobiology. The Chinese political system includes several million full-time professional staff often referred to as 'cadres'. Who are these local administrators, and how important are they for the Chinese Communist Party's developmental policies? How will it influence an individual to become a CCP cadre? In this seminar, we will examine cadres' roles from the perspective of two case studies, one focusing on environmental policies and the other with a focus on gender.

Over the last decade, the Kurdish areas in the Middle East have seen several violent conflicts. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds have been uprooted from their homes and areas of origin. This adds a new chapter to an already long history of displacement and migration. In this seminar, we will investigate some of the gendered aspects of these recent migration flows. The seminar will be held in English.
