Motivation
I am standing for election because I want to give a stronger voice to our staff group. In a time of tougher economic conditions and limited recruitment opportunities, it is essential to take good care of those who already work at the university. We must adopt new, more effective working methods, but we must also remember to preserve the joy and pride of being an employee at UiO. We need to strengthen collaboration among all staff groups and ensure that technical and administrative expertise is better recognised and utilised. This is what I wish to focus on.
In the coming years, the university will be developing a new strategy. It should not only describe the university's societal mission in Norway but also express international solidarity. I hope that my perspective as an immigrant and as a recipient of the Humanist Prize can make a valuable contribution to this mission.
My focus areas
Here are the key points I wish to focus on during my term on the University Board:
- Greater participation from the 'bottom up'
- Competence development and modern working tools
- Diversity, equality, and inclusion
Election platform
Greater participation from the 'bottom up'
Our expertise is often undervalued, and I believe the division between academic staff and technical and administrative staff is somewhat artificial. Many in the group hold bachelor's or master's degrees, and it is becoming increasingly common for administrative staff to have completed doctoral training as well. Real competence within our staff group is no less important.
We need the opportunity to contribute actively with our insights, as we often possess significant expertise and valuable perspectives. Technical and administrative staff must be given a greater role in various forums, so that together, in collaboration with academic staff and management, we can contribute to the university's development.
Let us create a university where processes can also unfold from the 'bottom up' and not solely from the 'top down'. I will strive to help build a culture where staff have the courage and capacity to take initiative.
Competence development and modern working tools
We are entering challenging times, but a tight budget will also afford us the opportunity to rethink our approaches. We must develop good common routines. This cannot solely be achieved through centralised processes; internal knowledge sharing is equally crucial. UiO must create more meeting spaces for technical-administrative staff with opportunities for knowledge sharing and development.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly developing. It impacts not only research and teaching but also how higher education administration can perform its tasks. We must integrate AI into administrative processes. AI should not replace administrative resources, but it can assist us in fulfilling our responsibilities. For me, it is important that UiO has robust processes and secure frameworks for implementing artificial intelligence (Uniforum - Norwegian only).
Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion
A good and diverse working environment contributes to excellent results. UiO should be a university where everyone feels welcome, where individuals can express themselves freely but with respect for others, where there is room for diverse opinions, and where no one should feel discriminated against or excluded. The university must implement effective measures to achieve gender balance and cultural diversity. We need not only more women in professorial positions but also an increased proportion of men in administration. It is essential that UiO reflects the cultural diversity of society.
About Me
I hold a master's degree in Polish Philology and a PhD in Literary Studies from the University of Warsaw. Additionally, I have pursued further education in Public Relations and am currently studying project management.
I have over ten years of experience in administration within the university and higher education sector at various levels of academia – I have served as a senior advisor at both the department and faculty levels, as well as in the Rector's office. I also have experience in the private sector.
A good understanding of what board work entails is essential in the role of a representative. At the Faculty of Medicine, I am responsible for faculty board meetings, among other duties. When I worked in the Rector's office at OsloMet, my role was to ensure the quality of matters presented to the university board and to organise seminars on board work.
I am passionate, engaged in many societal issues, and I am unafraid to stand up for what is important to me.
