Why should I go abroad?
Studying abroad will not only give you academic knowledge, but also improve your cultural understanding and understanding of how the very notion of screens is interpreted in other countries, and widen your network and cultural competence.
When can I go?
We recommend that you go on exchange in your third semester. See more information about recommended education plan with semester abroad on your study program page (under "Programme Structure").
The application deadline for exchange in the autumn semester is February 15.
Where can I go?
There are many exchange agreements to choose from at UiO. The agreements are with universities all over the world, and are distributed among several agreement holders ("avtaleeiere"). UiO, The Faculty of Humanities, and The Department of Media and Communication are examples of such agreement holders.
Courses you take abroad are to be used as part of your degree, and must therefore be within media and communication (or in other field upon application if a course is particularly relevant to your master's thesis). We therefore recommend applying to IMK's exchange agreements, because these have been entered into with partner universities that have a course offer within this field. You can also apply for other agreements (e.g. UiO or Faculty of Humanities agreements), but make sure you check in advance that the partner university offers courses within media and communication.

More Information about student exchange
Here you will find important information about exchange, step-by-step, from how to apply for admission to exchange, to what you need to remember when you return to UiO.
We recommend reading about other people's experiences from exchange - meet UiO's Exchange Ambassadors (in Norwegian).
IMK organizes an information meeting about exchange studies every year in January. Information about the time and place will be shared in the newsletter for Master's students.
