Interdisciplinary learning outcomes

The learning outcomes help clarify what you want students to learn, and how collaboration between different disciplines can be woven together to achieve these goals.

This can be done in different ways:

Interdisciplinary learning outcomes

With interdisciplinary learning outcomes, the aim is for students to integrate knowledge and skills from several disciplinary perspectives.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • describe different disciplinary perspectives on a topic,
  • collaborate with students from other disciplinary perspectives (provided that the programme is organised so that different disciplinary groups meet),
  • integrate knowledge and skills from two or more disciplinary perspectives when working with complex problems.

Transdisciplinary learning outcomes

With transdisciplinary learning outcomes, the aim is for students to include an external perspective through collaboration with an external actor. This may be a company, a public-sector organisation, or a user group (for example children or patient groups) that takes part in the collaboration without having the same academic responsibility.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • describe different disciplinary perspectives in relation to an external perspective,
  • collaborate with an external actor on a real-world problem,
  • integrate knowledge and skills when working on issues that are raised through the collaboration with the actor.
