In many interdisciplinary collaborations, misunderstandings arise because different disciplines use the same concepts but attach different meanings to them. This can create friction, delays, and unclear goals in projects.
In this workshop, participants are introduced to the theory of travelling concepts—concepts that “travel” between disciplines and change their meaning along the way. We explore how such concepts influence communication and collaboration, and how one can work with them more consciously in interdisciplinary processes.
Through short thematic introductions, practical group exercises, and joint reflection, participants will:
- identify key concepts in their own projects or fields
- examine how these concepts are understood and used across disciplines
- test a simple method for mapping and clarifying concepts in groups
- discuss how these insights can be brought into ongoing and future collaborations
The workshop is particularly relevant for teachers and students involved in interdisciplinary education.
