The University Board at UiO adopted on 10 March 2026 the Master Plan for the University’s IT for the period 2026–2029. The plan builds on successful measures and activities initiated under the framework of the first master plan from 2019. Strategic choices, measures and priorities have been adjusted in light of the status and framework conditions for IT operations in 2026.

From 6 January 2026 there will be an update to the security for the Eduroam wireless network at UiO. If you have incorrect Eduroam settings, you will need to set it up again the next time you change your password — or preferably before.

A new process for PhD admissions is in place, and the integration between Nettskjema and the archive system Elements — which makes the new process possible — is operational.

Copilot is Microsoft's AI which can be found in most Microsoft apps. Now Copilot also includes AI agents, small "helpers" that can perform tasks for you. Since the use of such agents has not been properly asssessed, UiO is closing down ther use.

On Thursday, October 2, the new version of GPT UiO was released. It includes several new features, including document uploads and the ability to create your own AI assistants.

NotebookLM is a powerful AI-driven tool from Google designed to help users create, organize, and analyze content. It will be useful for both students and staff and is now available for free to everyone at UiO.

Overleaf is a web-based writing, collaboration, and publishing tool for scientific work. It is designed to make the writing process faster and more convenient for those writing in LaTeX. From February 1, all students and staff can log in directly.

Recently, a number of students have received an English-language scam email informing them about a high-paying job vacancy as a "research assistant". Interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch via a @gmail or @outlook address. The email is signed by a "professor" from one of the University of Oslo's (UiO) faculties.

You have probably seen them, phishing attempts via email. Some are bad, and some are very convincing. Now, email users at UiO are being exposed to a wave of convincing scam emails.

In February, the IT department announced that UiO's email would be moved to a new and better solution, and now we are starting. The first step for everyone at UiO is to finish the cleanup effort to minimize the amount of e-mail which must be moved, and remove sensitive data. The migration to the new solution starts at the beginning of October.
